Do you think The Wicker Man (2006) is a misogynistic film?

♥ ~Sigy the Arctic Kitty~♥ asked:
Is the (fictional) Summersisle community shown in it represent what you think (or fear) a matriarchal society would be like?
David H, you are thinking of the first version made in 1972.

For me where clint eastwood plays guy who gets killed nicholas cage it when they killed by group of women turned into these mechanical menhating.
The father it is fictionali hope.
An old movie called play misty for me when normally loving caring peaceful women not trusting men and then kill.

I never saw it, but it sounds like it might be a manifestation of the deep-seated fear some men have of women having any kind of authority or power. I believe that was what was behind the witch burnings, and men’s hatred of feminists.

No, actually. I think it’s just making a buck off fears of paganism/witchcraft, though by the looks of it it didn’t make much.
It’s also not misogynist to portray misandry anymore than it’s misandronistic to portray misogyny. While I have never encountered anything like THAT, I have met Wiccans who hated men, or at the least, didn’t believe they were a part of the ‘Goddess.’

The 2006 version but if it is an attack on matriarchy then its common sense and not misogyny.

Yes, I do. People that say, “Oh but it displays sexism against men,” aren’t really thinking about it being a MOVIE and not reality. Because it is a movie, it’s expressing someone’s opinion or social commentary, and it’s directed by a man. It plays on fears some men have of independent women.

My main feeling is that female leaders are capable of matriarchy it wasnt as id been making point think.
The society portrayed had to sell so think the gender aspects were interesting although it couple.
